I like it, but it is definitely not all it's cracked up to be. It's a fun game, it's a good game, but it isn't the Second Coming. Everyone I've talked to about it acts like it's such an amazing game, and don't get me wrong, it's fun in a lot of ways, but there are some critical flaws. Yeah its mainly the visuals that have caught people's attention, it shows what next gen systems (or newer PC graphics for that matter) are capable of.
First off, the main character--He looks like he's gone through a woodchipper. I get they're going for the 'grizzled vet' thing, but there's a difference between grizzled and chewed up. Don't forget the over steroid induced army.
Secondly--NO INTRO MOVIE!? Nothing pisses me off more than when I don't get a pretty background cinematic to let me know what's going on before I start playing. It doesn't help that the game I rented didn't have the instruction booklet. Thats been a big buff, there is no "prologue" but whats on the website and the trailers, wherre did these Locust come from and how badly did the humans lose to be in the crap they are in?
Thirdly--No savegame ability. As fun as it is to be killed in the same spot over and over, the one time I make it through, I'd like to save my game so I don't have to go through that crap again. Yeah thats a pain, though in co-op you can play the hardest difficulty easily from what my roommate told me when him and his friend played through in one night.
I can't believe you didn't put the original Doom up there though, that got the genre off the ground. Damn, I love that game. As it is, I voted for Halo 2 for breathing new life into the shooter genre. Halo is fun but its not what I like in a shooter. The MP is fun but it leaves me wanting for more, but I'm beginning to like tactical shooters like Brothers in Arms and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter much more.
Comments in red.. I have to agree with you. I can't wait for the third Brothers in Arms...
