In this thread I am going to post the glossary. If I miss anything and you need an explaination, just post it in this thread and I will answer asap. :bs

Aerarius - Combat recovery vehicle.

Ala - Originally a term used for a wing of cavalry. Over time the word has evolved into usage as the term for an Armored Unit.

Aquilia - Latin for eagle. used to denote the Roman Air Force and any fighters and bombers used in space.

Auxilia - Originally they were supporting units made up of foriegn citizens. Over time the supporting portion of the term was remained and now foreign troops serve in normal units, but commanded by Romans. These units are denoted by the (A) after the unit type and name. Example, III Ala Cohors (A). This would denote a cohort of armor that was raised with foreign citizens.

Ballistae - Type of Roman light Artillery.

Bireme - Roman eqivilent to a frigate.

Apollonian Gate - The Roman term for the natural occurring wormholes that lead to different star systems. Requires a Jump engine to affect the gravitational variances enough to get the wormhole to open.

Capsarius - Field medic, but also used to denote a nurse in a civilian hospital.

Carpentarius - Construction vehicle.

Castra - The Roman term for a military Camp. The term has slowly transformed into the modern day usage for the term fortress.

Centurio - Commander of a Century originally. Over time the rank has come to be more in line with the American rank of Lieutenant.

Century - Roman equivilent of a company. Each Century has 100 Legionarii.

Chrono - Roman term used to denote any sort of timekeeping device.

Classis - Latin for Fleet.

Cohors - Roman equivilent to a Brigade. Each Cohort has either 5 Turmae, Armored, or 5 Maniples, Infantry.

Cohors Amazona - Originally raised before females were officially allowed in combat units. One of two of the Emperor's personal bodyguard units. With women in combat units, the Cohors Amazona has taken on the duty to provide the Emperor with the best of his female warriors. The entry requirements are as rigorous, if not more so, as the requirements for entry into the Equites Singulares Augusti.

Contubernium - Roman army Squad. A Roman squad consists of 10 Legionarii.

Corvus - A type of Roman Combat Transport based on the hull of the Naves Codicariae class freighter.

Curatores Fumis - Latin of Guardians of Smoke. Used to denote the Roman Imperial Intelligence Agency.

Curiosi - Used to denote the Roman Secret Police.

Decurio - Roman Equivilent of an American Captain

Eques Legionarius - Tank crewmen. Also known by just Eques.

Equites Singulares Augusti - Imperial Horse Guard. One of the best Roman units in existence. Since the disbandment of the Praetorian Guard under Emperor Aratus, these and the Cohors Amazona have become the emperor's personal bodyguard, and unlike the disgraced Praetorian Guard, they take that job VERY seriously.

Equites - Originally denoting the combat branch of cavalry, but now denotes the combat branch of armor.

Ferrarius - Combat engineering vehicle.

Fabri - combat engineers.

Fabrum - Originally the Roman term for factory. Over time the term has evolved into usage for military engineers and their units.

Fulminata - Latin for 'armed with lightning'. The Roman term for gunpowder.

Fulminatus Quinquireme - A roman type of battlecruiser.

Fumum Vendere - Latin for seller of smoke. Used to denote Roman Spies.

Gladius - Roman Short Sword.

Garum - A strong pungent smelling fish sauce the Romans use to flavor their meat. The slang version of the word has evolved over the centuries to equate with anything that has a bad connotation. Example of a English version of the word would be shit. Like, "You have just made my shit list bub."

Hades - The Roman version of the underworld. More Akin to the Judeo-Christian Purgatory than Hell.

Horrea Etherium - A Roman type of Tanker based on the Horrea Piperatoria class Super Freighter.

Horrea Piperatoria - A Roman type of Super Freighter based on a scaled up Naves Codicariae class freighter.

Lapidarius - Roman bridging vehicle.

Legati - Type of Roman Command APC.

Legati Legionis - Legio Commander. Equivilent American rank is Major General.

Legatus Classis - Roman naval commander. Equivilent to the American Fleet Admiral.

Legio - Roman equivilent to a Division. Each Legio has 10 Cohorts.

Legionarii - Roman non-rate ground ranks, E-1, E-2 and E-3 all rolled into one.

Liburnia - Roman version of a Corvette. Note that all Roman scouts are of corvette size. So Liburnia is also to denote scout for the Roman navy.

Lorica - Latin for armor. Over time the term began to denote tanks.

Maniple - Roman equivilent to an American infantry battalion.

Manipularii - Roman Marine.

Martiobarbulus - Type of Roman heavy artillery.

Medicus - Roman doctor.

Mons Class - Mountain Class, A type of Roman Battleship.

Mulus - Latin for Mule. Now used to denote a cargo carrying vehicles.

Mulus Marii - Roman truck drivers.

Nauphlax Quadireme - A roman type of Heavy Cruiser.

Navarchus - Roman naval Squadron Commander. Equivilent to the American Commodore.

Naves Codicariae - A roman type of bulk cargo freighter.

Optio - Roman NCO rank, equivilent to E-4 and E-5 all rolled into one.

Papilio - originally meant tent. Over time the term came to denote armored personnel carriers.

Pausarius Trireme - A type of Roman destroyer.

Pila - Originally the name of the Roman Javelin they army threw just before entering melee combat. Over time the term has evolved to mean any sort of guided missile.

Pilum - The Roman term for their Infantry Rifles.

Praefectus Equitum - Ala Commander. Equivilent American rank is Major General.

Praefectus Fabrum - Chief Engineer.

Praefectus Vigilum - Roman type of Anti-Orbital artillery.

Primus Pilus - Originally was the term for the commander of the first Century of the First Cohort. Over time evolved into the Top Roman Staff NCO, the American equivilent is an E-9.

Principale - The Roman Staff Nco. A Principale would be the equivelent of the American Staff NCO such as the E-6,E-7 and E-8 all rolled into one.

Quadreme - Roman version of the Heavy cruiser. It is interesting to note the Romans never developed the concept of a Light Cruiser.

Quinquireme - Roman equivilent to a Battlecruiser.

Sexireme - Roman equivilent for Battleship.

Tesserarius - Roman equivilent to Major.

Tormentum - Roman term for artillery.

Tormentarius - Artillery crewmen.

Tribuni Angusticlavii - Roman equivilent of an American Light Colonel. All Auxilia's are commanded by Tribuni's.

Tribunus Laticlavius - Roman equivilent to full bird Colonel. All Cohorts are commanded by a Tribunus.

Trierarchus - Roman term for Ship's Captain. Equivilent to the American naval Rank of Captain.

Trireme - Roman equivilent to a Destroyer.

Turmae - Roman equivilent to an American cavalry Squadron.

Valetudinarium - Roman field hospital.

Veiltes - Originally used as a term for missile throwing skirmishers in the Roman Army. Over time it has become the term for Missile armed ships in the Roman Navy.

Velarii Liburnia - A type of Roman scout corvette.

Vexillatio - Originally meant detachment, but over time has evolved into the term for headquarters of any size.

Vigiles - Roman version of Police. Also used to denote most forms of anti-aircraft artillery.

Vigiles Tormentarius - Anti-aircraft/anti-orbital artillery crewmen.
