"Centurion"- HK Series 12 Model 453 Type 900

The M453 was the largest of SKYNET's ground mobile, walker-type HK units. After several failed designs for multi-limbed walker combat units, SKYNET reviewed the data and statistics and implemented a new design for both defense and assault. SKYNET found that four legs allowed for the optimum arrangement for balance, maneuverability, and stability on the move. The Model 453 was the culmination of all the knowledge gained through field use of the much smaller spider-gun pod. its advanced "fight by light" fiber optic processor arrays controlled the inherently unstable chassis and allowed very high speeds in all terrain. By adjusting the angle and pitch of its legs to a constant stream of data input, the M453 was stable enough to fire while moving at full speed.

The M453 was a combination platform, huge and terrifying to the Resistance units, and its first appearance caused great concern among the command elements of the Resistance. The M453 soon gained the nickname "Centurion" and "Spider-guard." A central waist unit housed the miniature high efficiency reactor as well as the primary and redundant transmission systems. Locomotion was provided by four unique, reverse designed scramble legs. The 'feet' of these legs could roll inwards, curling up so that the entire unit could 'squat' in place, lowering its overall height and profile by 66%, providing a very stable platform for the FiConSys as well as maintaining a static defensive 'hull down' posture. Special pits were often provided for Centurion units, allowing them to squat down behind hyperalloy armor plate and plug in to the local defense network while being free to engage any targets in a wide range of fire. In an instant, the M453 could rise from its crouch and accelerate away across the terrain either engaging a target or moving to a tactically superior position, its servos whining loudly and menacingly.

The trunk / torso of the M453 was based on the arrangement of the M250D, but only in general shape. The head of the unit contained armored sensor housings resistant to explosives and high energy small arms fire. The shoulders of the unit housed heavy remote electric drive weapon mounts with the same degree and speed of traverse that the M250D offered. The exception to the weapon mounts was that the weapon mounts were heavier, able to accept larger and more powerful armaments, some of which were only just developed in the last months of the War. One notable feature of the M453 was the elevating turret. This feature allowed the upper torso of the M453 to rise out of the main chassis, to allow the unit to gather extra height, up to a full three meters extra, in order to see over obstacles, or fire over and into ruins or human installations. The 'stretching of the neck' of the M453 was perhaps almost as unnerving as the rapid, spider-like grace which the huge machine managed to acquire when it was moving.

Standard armament for the M453 consisted of two independently operating General Dynamics Model M105C-2 rapid pulse phased plasma cannons, one mounted port and one mounted starboard, each linked to an auxiliary miniature nuclear reactor for dedicated power. The heavy Model M105C-2 plasma guns were new developments of SKYNET and were the most powerful of the mounted, mobile energy weapons. Larger weapons had more output but were relegated to fixed positions around core installations. Each of the M105C-2 units had a throughput range of 500 kilowatts with a practical rate of fire of 600 pulses per minute. Payload, feeding from the reactor waste, was for all practical purposes, infinite. The M105C-2 was superior in performance to anything that the Resistance could field, easily defeating anything that the Resistance deployed that was considered 'armored' by SKYNET. The M105C-2 units were used primarily in an anti-vehicle role but several instances exist on record of Resistance units trying to hide behind buildings or small hills and gullies only to find the ravenous power of the M105C-2 units easily able to pierce the cover and eliminate the units hiding within or behind.

In the same weapon mount, the M453 unit also mounted a pair of standard, reactor fed, very rapid fire General Dynamics Model 25D3 phased plasma guns, the standard unit found on the A4 units and the M250D units. The M25D3 had a throughput range of 250 kilowatts with a practical rate of fire of 200 pulses per minute. Payload, feeding from the reactor waste, was for all practical tactical purposes, infinite but required periodic refueling and maintenance. These weapons were used for anti-personnel work as well as lightly armed targets and close in defense of the unit. The higher rate of fire gave the smaller guns an advantage in engagement and pulse spread over the heavier weapons.

The M453 was the most expensive (material and time wise) of the units that SKYNET ever built, the exception being the T1000 series of advanced prototype Terminator. Towering above even the M250D units, the M453 was feared by the Resistance units. In most assaults on bases guarded by M453 units, the brunt of the assault was first directed against activated M453 units and the attacks against the installations was not commenced until the last M453 unit had been destroyed.

The M453 possessed the same electronics as the Series 1200 Scout, but unlike the T300 unit, the M453 possessed a precision autonomous unit and also a backup, redundant logic array. it could not be lured into traps easily like the T300, nor could it be decoyed away from its position. M453s were capable of controlling other units, including A4 aerial units, M250s heavy assault units, and even T600 and T800 units. Each M453 also had a dedicated Series 1200 Scout assigned to it to act as a forward observer. In most respects, the M453 was SKYNET's version of a 'supervisor'. it coordinated other units in defense while it engaged the enemy directly as well.

The M453 was very heavily armored. SKYNET could have armored two M250s for the armor that was fitted to the M453s microprocessor controlled hyperalloy combat chassis. Nothing short of dedicated anti-tank or concentrated high energy heavy crew served weapons fire could breach the M453's armor. Inside the M453, triple redundant systems were installed as well as limited self-repair routines. SKYNET fielded a total of five hundred and sixty-eight M453 units before the Cheyenne Mountain complex was taken off-line in 2029. When SKYNET went off-line, the autonomous protocols of the M453s switched over and began operating independently. All read-only memory became volatile when communication with SKYNET ceased. These rogue units could actively take up command of other non- and semi-autonomous units, using them as local assets. The result of this switch in programming was that after SKYNET was destroyed, its creations were granted free-will and took on a mind of their own, it was SKYNET's version of Pandora's box, a last roll of the dice. These rogue units had to be dealt with by the victorious Resistance units, already weakened from the Colorado and Los Angeles campaigns. The result was an unforeseen, long, tedious, painful, and costly after war campaign that made the previous victory a bitter pill to swallow for many in the Resistance.

TRACKED HK- Model 250D Series G3 Type 500- The heaviest ground unit deployed by SKYNET, the T500 HK has earned several names among the Resistance, chief of which is "Tank". The Model 250D is the largest unit deployed by SKYNET for ground assault, which is its primary role. The M250D stands 15 meters tall, stretches 25 meters in length, and has a width of 10 meters. The weight of the M250D is impressive as well, even with lighter and harder than steel hyperalloy, the M250D still maintains a hefty 60 ton displacement. The enduralloy chassis cradles a compact fusion bottle reactor as well as the drive train subassembly which handles the multiple and redundant transmissions that drive the four independently suspended, independently steerable, all terrain bogey track assemblies. Each track is a full two meters wide, allowing superior all terrain mobility and the four independent track and drive assemblies enable the M250D to lose up to two drive units and still maintain a reasonable speed and percentage of maneuverability.

The 'torso' of the tank houses the primary sensor / scanner suite, target acquisition modules, and FiConSys fire control systems as well as redundant tactical microprocessors and operating systems. The 'arms' of the torso each contain independently targeted and tracking RED-T Remote Electric Drive Turrets. The unit is heavily armored in 5cm thick hyperalloy which provides superior protection against kinetic impact and excellent protection against portable energy weapons. Small arms employing kinetic or chemical explosive penetration strategies of less than 40mm caliber are useless in penetrating the M250D's armor, though the Resistance has found that the optical and electronic sensors which the M250D uses to hunt are somewhat susceptible to personal weapons fire, rendering the earlier models of the M250 (A, B, and C models) blind. The M250D counters this with multiple sensor arrays and redundant acquisition modes as well as armored nacelles in which the sensors are housed.

The M250D is equipped with two large hydraulic servo enhanced manipulator arms with waldo-style gripper extensions housed in front of the main 'torso' of the tank. These are used for manipulating heavy equipment, acquiring hard to reach Resistance units, and removing debris from the path of the unit that it could not normally just roll over. Very few things can stand the direct impact of the heavily armored M250D which has been known to simply steam roller Resistance armed vehicles, with the Resistance units still inside the vehicles, while the M250D engaged multiple other targets.

The primary role of the M250D has been large area pacification. This role has placed the M250D in a wide search pattern of an area where it patrols, actively searching for human occupation and the unit is charged with terminating all positive contacts. Secondary mission objectives include clearance or destruction of potential sources of cover and shelter for human occupation. The M250D is often supported by an A4 which maintains a 'high eye' style of close air support, directing target acquisition and beyond visual sensor acquisition information directly to one or more M250Ds on the fly.

Primary sensors and communication suites for the M250D are somewhat inferior to that of the A4, allowing some initial defeats by Resistance units. Newer electronics have been added to the 'D' model, resulting in better performance.

Primary armament for the M250D is carried on the side mounted turret sponsons. Each turret affords a full 270 degree traverse and a elevation / depression of up to + / - 120 degrees and is controlled by a separate FiConSys which can operate and engage separate targets at the same time thus increasing the efficiency of the unit. The Resistance discovered that precision shots to the turret sensors would blind the HK on one side and this tactic was taken advantage of to a great degree in the early years of the model's introduction. Later models ('B' and later) would cross-link the FiConSys of both turrets into the main processor array of the HK, thus allowing for triple redundancy in target acquisition, a move that caught many of the Resistance by surprise.

Previous models of the M250 relied on chain fed plasma pulse cartridges, drawn in linkless feed from the ammunition bays deep within the Machine itself, to feed its primary armament. A pair of cross-linked ammunition bays, each holding 2500 plasma pulse cartridges, exists just slightly ahead of the main reactor in the main body. The ammunition bays are designed with walls and floor that are thicker than the roof of the bay so that an explosion in the bay won't wreck the machine, merely that all of the ammo will blow outwards, through the weaker top shell of the bay. The Machine will lose all of its ammo storage capacity but could return to its base for repair.

The later 'D' model uses a smaller, dedicated reactor for the weapon systems. In the event that either reactor is damaged or forced off-line, the remaining reactor can be brought to full power and still maintain the power requirements of the M250 weapon systems.

Primary weapons load for the early M250 series ("A" through "C") tracked HK units consists of two individual General Dynamics Model 44RD89 rapid pulse phased plasma guns, mounted in full powered turrets to the port and starboard side of the unit. These heavy, high gain plasma guns are fed by Type 3AM44 series 2 plasma pulse cartridges, linkless feed, drawn from dedicated 2500 round ammunition bays deep within the armored body of the Machine.

The "D" model is armed with linked pairs of reactor fed very rapid fire General Dynamics Model R25D3 phased plasma guns. Each M25D3 has a throughput range of 250 kilowatts with a practical ROF of 2000 pulses per minute, allowing the M250D to project 8000 PPM from its combined armament. Payload, feeding from the reactor waste, is for all practical tactical purposes, infinite but did require periodic refueling and maintenance service.

The later variant of the HK heavy pacification unit, Model 250F, including aft powered turret with two heavy plasma guns to provide for rear and improved side defense coverage. The "F" model could direct up to 4 heavy plasma guns to each side and to the front while directing up to 6 heavy plasma guns to the rear.


HUNTER KILLER SCOUT

Another variant of the M250D used a much smaller combat chassis to allow it to maneuver in places the M250D could not. This model, the M255D was used extensively in the last years of the War as both an urban pacification unit as well as a fast scout and an installation patrol unit. it was easier to produce, requiring fewer raw materials, it was faster, carried two powered turrets with improved traverse each mounting a rapid pulse high energy phased plasma gun. The advanced electronics, a generation ahead of anything else in SKYNET's arsenal, were the prototypes for its next series of hunter killers. The electronic suite was the predecessor to the Centurion form of unit over unit supervisory control. SKYNET began to experiment with allowing some of the M255Ds to have semi-autonomous control of their patrol zones as well as their actions.

M255Ds were armed with individual General Dynamics Model 44RD89 rapid pulse phased plasma guns, mounted in full powered turrets to the port and starboard side of the unit. These heavy, high gain plasma guns were fed by Type 3AM44 series 2 plasma pulse cartridges, linkless feed, drawn from a single, dedicated 2500 round ammunition bay deep within the armored body of the Machine.

The "M255F" model is armed with two, individual mounted reactor fed, very rapid fire General Dynamics Model R25D3 phased plasma guns. Each M25D3 has a throughput range of 250 kilowatts with a practical ROF of 600 pulses per minute, allowing the M250D to project 1200 PPM from its combined armament. Payload, feeding from the reactor waste, is for all practical tactical purposes, infinite but did require periodic service and refueling.
