There comes a time in a person's life when you realise you must either change the way you live or you end up in an earthen grave mouldering for eternity. Such a realisation has come to me recently.

On thursday March 13, at 14:50 hrs I was cooking myself some lunch when all of a sudden my chest began to tighten and I could not take even a small breath. Needless to say, I thought this ole Marine was about to cash in his chips. To make a long story somewhat shorter I was rushed to the hospital for many a test.

After hours of tests it was found that my heart rate when I was admitted was 142 beats per minute - that was at rest- blood pressue was 285 over 115 and oxygen levels in the blood were down to a dangerous level of 83% saturation. Now you may be wondering what all this gobeldy-gook means, well what it means is that I was just short of checking out, permenantly.

Over the next few hours it was determined my heart was ok, just having to beat more to get the proper levels of oxygen to my cells. What the problem turned out to be was I have a Bi-Lateral Pulmonary Embolism. In layman's terms in means I have blood clots in both of my lungs. Hence the reason I could not breathe and my oxy levels were so low. And that caused my heart to work overtime, damn near killing me in the process, to keep the oxygen flowing. Then I come to find out that the probable source for the blood clots are my bad right leg I have been going round and round with Uncle Sam about.

Then to make matters even more 'joyful' I found out I was a full blown diabetic, and have to use the needle for the rest of my life.

So, to sum it up, I have blood clots in both lungs and cannot breathe properly, and I am a newly diagnosed diabetic. So now I have major lifestyle changes I need to make, everything from diet to exercise.

In the end I have been given a choice; to live or die by my own hand. In a way I guess it is fitting considering all my rants on freedom, and individual responsibility. I guess the good lord called me onto the carpet and told me to put up or shut up. :bs

I am mainly writing this to inform you all of why I had disappeared and why my net activities may be curtailed until I can get rid of these blood clots in my lungs and I can do more than just lie in bed gasping like a fish out of water.

One thing though, BENNO, SEND THE NEXT CHAPTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bs

Cheers, Þórgrímr

Damn man, that sucks. Something similar actually just happened to one of our teachers here a couple months ago. Does it complicate the whole medical situation having to take blood thinners and such to get rid of the clots but needing the insulin for the diabetes?
