You Maoist scum have drifted far from the true meaning of Socialism. Only the Soviet Union will triumph in space !

If I may offer some advice, take a good read through the discussion thread for the first game. There's more than a few tips to be garnered from the questions I and others have asked. A few tips:

1) You can order one launch a month from each pad. You may have to book a launch four months in advance but that doesn't mean it's reserved entirely for that launch for the entire time.

2) Pad A launches in the first week of the month, Pad B the second, Pad C the third and Pad D the fourth.

3) Without a communications package, your satellite will just beep at regular intervals. If you want it to do anything else, it needs a communications package.

4) You can change the loadout of any mission before it's on the pad. Once it's on the pad, it's locked and cannot be changed (only scrubbed). This may come in handy if you roll a critical failure on a payload component.

5) Orders don't count if they aren't on your Orders sheet. Don't put them in the email, they won't be heeded.

And if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask here in this thread. That way, we all benefit from the answer and it's about as fast a turn around time for answers anyway as any other way you might have to ask them.

It's awful quiet in here. Nobody has any questions, suggestions, or comments? No fluff stuff yet? :ad

There are few minor issues.

The rules is written: " The Admin Annex is where the player will construct the buildings ..." but actually you give the orders in the orders sheet.

Also the orders sheet is the first sheet you will look at when you start playing. So this first sheet should be mentioned in the rules. Beause I did not expect this sheet I got a bit confused.

Also scrubing a missions leads to a decrease of pretige by 3. But a failing Orbital satellite mission only decreases my prestige by 2. I think a failing launch of a rocket + sattelite, maybe damaging the landing pad and all components lost hit the reputation more than simply scrub the mission. So here is maybe a need for a bit tweaking. For example scrubing satellite missions only cost 1 prestige or increase the failure penalty to 3 prestige.

1.) That is correct. In the upper left hand corner of the Admin Annex is where your buildings that are under construction are listed.

Writing your orders is seperate from where the buildings are constructed. The sheet is there for the Players to write, and the GM to respond to, their orders.

2.) Depends on if the Satellite launch is your first, or after. If it is your first, you also get the failure penalty for the Milestone, which is 5, for a total launch failure of 7. Now, if that OS launch was your first, and had a Catastrophic Failure on launch, then you lose the pad, half of your safety of the lifting body, AND a loss of 7 PPs. So a PP loss is relative and situational. If it was your first OS launch and you lost only 2 PPs, then you got off easy. :w The GM must like you. :bs

And we already cover catastrophic failures. Mav can attest as to how deadly a launch step catastrophic failure can be, he had one early in the last game. Also it depends on what step the failure occurred in. Not every failure is a launch failure.

@Mav, Cool! I look forward to seeing some fluff! :bs

I got another question.

When I have budget left at a years end (Wuu,Iuu, Rp) do I have them in the next year?.

For example, I have left 5 Wu at December and get in January 500 Wu`s. Do Ihave in January then 500 or 505 Wu?

I thought I would explain my reasoning for the scrub cost and four month requirement for launches a bit better here.

One thing you must understand is that it is a nightmare of logistics to set up a launch for a rocket. In the real world launch vehicles are, usually, only built once a launch is scheduled. Unlike the real thing DSA! allows you to keep inventory on hand.

Then there is the fuel for the lifting body. In the west we use supercooled fuels like LOX and others. The problem with the stuff is that it boils off, even in the best of containers. So the fuel for the rocket in the west is not even moved on site until the day of launch due to boil off.

In the Soviet Union and the east they use a rocket fuel so corrosive it will actually eat away at the rocket itself. The Russian technicians who handled the stuff nicknamed it 'The Witches Brew'. It is a binary fuel based off of the T-Stoff and C-Stoff the Germans used to power their rocket plane, the Me-163 Komet. So their fuel, even though for different reasons, is not moved on site until the day of launch.

All of these things create a logistical nightmare to bring together, and is simplified in DSA by the four month lead time for scheduling a launch. This is also why scrubbing a launch costs so many PPs. They have to scramble to cancel HW purchases, get rid of thousands of gallons of highly toxic chemicals, and then redo the planning all over again.

Mission failures were expected, and as such even in failure lessons were learned. That's why in DSA even if the mission was a failure, any HW that did perform as expected gains in Safety. So, just a plain old mission failure, or partial success, is much easier on the player. :AH

I hope this wee post will help to understand my rationale for the reasons for certain design features. :bs

so, unlike the tank crew in their army who drink the alcohol hydraulic fluid, drinking this would be a one shot affair? :)
