No, the eye surgery was curtesy of the Army. But they basically do the same for us here... You get one clear, tinted and yes you get saftey goggles/glasses.

For EIB qualification You have to

-Score Expert with M16A4 or M4 Carbine (36/40)
-Score 70% in all three APFT events
-Complete Land Nav day and night course

Thats to attend the Expert Infantryman Course

Right now, my eyes aren't focusing too good since I am still on the eye-roids which are helping my peepers heal.

the APFT is in two days so i may have a shot at that

And the land Nav course is in the few weeks

heheh.. yeah, i've got to do my annual pft in a month.

good ol' RAAF pft... its a joke. 2.4km in 12 minutes, 30 push ups, 45 sit ups.

last year i ran 5 seconds under.... but 2 days before (making it saturday night) i'd sprained my ankle running away from a very angry man who seemed to think that i'd pissed on his front door. I don't remember this. anyway, i passed that run and my left leg was black and purple from halfway down my calf to the tips of my toes, and there was no change in size from the knee down. hurt like fuck. kind of pissed off... i reckon if i didnt do that i would have broken 10 minutes.

For my age group...

Push Ups: 40
Sit Ups: 50
2 Mile Run: 17:00

that is just to pass... Army Standard. Units of course, have their own standard, especially light Infantry units

Yeah, well I am going to have to take a break on this years EIB, since right now I got screened as having a very low Oxygen count in my blood, not to mention risdual damage from the IED blast I got in Iraq. So right now all this stuff is catching up with me in a wicked fast way.

that's shithouse. anything the docs can do to help with higher blood O2 levels? if they're anything like RAAF doctor's, they're about as useful as a g rated porno!

hope that it clears up.

Well the lack of oxygen does explain a lot... Tells me the reason why at some odd moments, my breath sounds a bit short when I talk. I tell you when you come to the Infantry, you discover problems you didn't know you had or you gain new problems you never had.

yep, armies the world over have the same approach to their members - chew'em up, spit 'em out.

Har har... just ran my PFT for the Marines...

Min for 17-26 is:

3 Pullups/Chinups (you can use either method)
50 Crunches
28:00 3 Mile Run

Last one I did was a mock one last week:

6 Pullups (I didn't do them fast like you should in a PFT so I probably could of eeked out another 2 at least)
95 Crunches
19:53 Run time (My BEST run time since school when I did a 20:30)

I'm looking to go to Jump School as my reenlistment bonus since I don't get a money bonus :P

Gotta pass the lowest age group for the APFT. I got the run and the situps, the pushups are gonna be a pain since I got to do them all proper and like.

Some photo's of the dust storms that hit us during the week. It gav the whole place a post-apoc/dodgy b-grade horror movie feel. loved it. On Wednesday the hangar was flooded with an orangy-red glow.

got promoted today. Now i'm a Leading Aircraftsman (e3) instead of an Aircraftsman (e2). Bullshit rank, halfway between pte and lance in army terms. but it is a payrise! yay for more monies! on the downside, i'm now eligible for more shit jobs, and still eligible for the normal shit jobs.... and its not enough of a rank to let me handball the shit jobs, either.

i found out when my sarge, 15 minutes before lunch, gave me half an hour to get into correct uniform and cited the dress manual about wearing the correct rank. a case of "step forward if you're an AC.... benno, not so fast. go to clothing store and get your new rank slides"

Congrats Benno! :bs

Sucks you can't delegate the shit jobs yet though.

eh, its pretty boring how we met. she was on excercise (she's in the army reserve) and I was in the pub on base.

her day job is working on her PHD thesis in medical genetics. some peope say she's smart, i counter by saying that "if she's so smart why is she dating me?". right now she's in peru doing the Inca Trail, then cycling to santiago.

The M107 Barrett Anti-Material Weapon. The Updated model of the venerable and still widely used and popular M82 series Barrett. This one is slightly lighter (a Barrett weighs as much as a M240B about 27 to 32 lbs).
